As with any remedy, the effect is wholly reliant on the unique individual receiving it. Everyone's experience of Reiki is their own and its effectiveness dependent on a variety of factors. In addition, each time you receive Reiki, your experience will likely be different as you are beginning from a different energetic standpoint.
Similarly, the frequency of treatments required can vary. Reiki healing can sometimes take up to a week to sink in, so further visits within that time are not generally necessary. That said, it is impossible to overdose on Reiki as it only ever goes where it is needed, it being a balancing tool, so top-ups at any time can be good!
Like all holistic therapies, Reiki is a gradual healer and works best when built up on over time. Whilst each visit can be wonderfully therapeutic in itself, regular sessions can help to achieve and maintain a balanced state of well-being and build resilience towards life's upheavals.
Our energetic levels and alignments are forever in flux, but in time, with regular Reiki sessions, we can work to programme our chakras to being used to being aligned, thus potentially making the adjustments quicker, easier and eventually even maybe finding a route to self-heal!
As with any practice, the longer you leave between sessions, the more there is to work on, but there is no prescribed or expected regularity - the important thing is that you feel better each time - I like nothing more than to see a blissed-out smile on people's faces at the end of a visit!

Reiki is a form of energy healing and not spiritual healing, although doubtless spiritual healers use energy in a similar way. Whilst you are taught to enlist the help of "spirit guides" during training, Reiki is purely a way of focusing energy and does not pertain to any religion or spiritual modality. It is far more akin to science!
Reiki is about tuning in to energy frequencies that are all around us - much like you would tune a radio or even receive signals to your mobile phone! We are surrounded by energy, made of energy and making energy all the time, as is everything within our world. That is science, not religion.
A Reiki practitioner is trained to tune into, harness and transmit the life-force energy that surrounds us and works as a conduit - rather like a lightning rod - to use this energy to heal by balancing the energy centres (chakras) of the recipient (see below)
There is some consternation among certain religious factions as to the origin of the energy used and therefore perhaps the acceptability of such workings within the parameters of their beliefs. The same applied to the Newton's theory of gravity when first revealed - another invisible energetic force. As with gravity, you cannot see Reiki, only the effect it has. Food for thought! If you are at all unsure however, please refer to your religious leader.
The chakras are the energy centres within the body. There are commonly understood to be seven - the Root (at the base of the spine), the Sacral (in the pelvic region), the Solar Plexus (in the upper abdomen just below the ribcage), the Heart, the Throat, the Third Eye (between the eyebrows) and the Crown (right at the top of the head)
Whilst they cannot yet be detected by any mechanical scanners, they have been widely accepted in Eastern medicine for centuries and are referred to in numerous holistic therapies including Tai Chi, Yoga and certain forms of meditation. A possible link with Western medicine is their proximity and similarity of function to certain glands around the body.
I plan to include extra pages on this website to go into each of the chakras in more detail, but in the meantime consider this: when we get nervous about something that is about to happen, or experience anxiety about a situation, where do we feel the butterflies? When we see something that is exceptionally cute, where do we feel the pang that brings our hand to automatically place pressure to heal?
These experiences are energetic and manifest at the related energy centres (chakras) in our body. These are tangible ones and there are many more less tangible that can be placed out of balance by the slightest change in our circumstances - or indeed be out of balance from deep-rooted experience since birth, or even before. This is what Reiki seeks to re-balance and heal.
